Birds they come and gather in your garden
But let’s not care about the coming dawn
Let us smash the nightmare of our parting
And let them pick the pieces off the lawn

Let that magpie steal your ring, let the others chirp and sing
Let’s start
From the very darkest night
Let the morning come and light up our hearts

Birds they know exactly why they’ve come here
All the trees around here bear strange fruit
Of passion that explodes right into loneliness and fear
Now I know it is their favourite food

Let that magpie steal your ring…

People think we’re crazy, let them think so
They will not be here tommorrow night
Beneath the harvest moon we’ll let all the loneliness go
And birds will start to sing before first light
